Astrology has strayed very far from its mystical roots today. You don't need to listen to everything an astrologer tells you. Most are just repeating silly claims they've heard elsewhere.

Here are a few common falsehoods perpetuated in astrology: part 1 of infinity.

1 - Venus rules love.

Love is not an archetype but transcends. It’s not ruled by a planet. Venus rules the skills for relating and the aesthetics of love.

2 - Archetypes are stereotypes.

Archetypes are used to avoid stereotypes, but they’ve become the same. Archetypes are not a specific list of nouns, although you can certainly give examples. Archetypes are an understanding of a behavior that is inherently multivalent in its possibilities for manifestation. The same archetype can be expressed and realized in so many different ways.

3 - You are your astrology.

Your astrology is either your hell or your heaven, your samsara or nirvana. Your astrology chart doesn’t change as you navigate between these states figuring it all out. Your awareness of it all is what changes our state of consciousness.

Who you truly are is beyond any pattern. The entire spiritual quest is about this recognition. Astrology is supposed to assist with this, not keep you mindlessly stuck spinning. 

4 - Scorpio is like a fire sign.

Scorpio is fixed water. As a fixed sign, it is the most raw and pure of its element. Water means emotions and emotions need to flow. It’s the flow that allows us to get through tough emotions. Cancer is ruled by the Moon and flows into a new sign every couple of days. Pisces is mutable and flows by nature. Scorpio is fixed to its emotions. Thus, this is the sign that holds and feels the most, even in secret stillness. This is as watery as it gets. The deep dam that builds up is what gives Scorpio their transformative power.

5 - Some specific astrology synastry with someone means they’re the one for you.

If you need to check someone’s astrology to confirm if you should be with them, then you shouldn’t be with them. There’s a great benefit in using relationship astrology but it’s not this overly simplistic type of interpretation. You can also have a profound experience with someone that you only knew for a couple of months but it changed the course of your life, so spiritual and/or meaningful connections can manifest in different ways.

6 - "Karma!"

Saturn does not represent your karma. And 1 of the several million asteroids that’s been named “Karma” also does not answer our most profound spiritual question in one placement. Your whole chart is your karma.

And karma just means action, it’s cause and effect, not some punishment or anything else.

7 - You need to move away from your South Node and the planets in your 12th house.

There is nothing in your chart you need to move away from. The more challenging or “scary” something is in your chart, the more you need to lean into it. Everything in your chart is a part of you and you need to let all of yourself endlessly unfold naturally.

Nothing in the universe is out of place.

You can’t grow in an area without embracing its opposite (north v. south node).
